The Thomas Wall Clock Plans

The finished clock is 13"s high, 9"s wide, and 7"s deep.

Here is yet another Thomas Clock!  This one is smaller than the Thomas Grandfather Clock.  It is a beautiful and functional wall clock that keeps very accurate time. It can easily be converted to a splended grandfather clock movement by removing the support plates (instructions are included in the plans) and setting it on a shelf. It's really a fun and easy clock to build!

For those of you who want something fun and unusual, this clock is for you.  It is only slightly more challenging to build than our famous grandfather clock.  I say "slightly" because this clock was designed to be built by both amateur and experienced scrollsawers, and you really need a scrollsaw to build this clock. It doesn't have to be a fancy scrollsaw either, because a friend of mine built this clock by using an ancient scrollsaw from the early 1900's that is peddle driven!  Go figure what possessed him to do this!

Here's the great news:  The Thomas Wall Clock Plans are full-scale, nicely detailed, and the gear and frame pictures are templates!  In other words, the templates can be photocopied, tack-glued to wood and then cut out!  We also offer this clock in kit form, or just,  "gears only"!

If you are thinking about owning these plans, please take a moment to see the laser-cut  "clock kit" we offer for this clock.  It is basically the same clock, but the supports are done differently to accommodate the laser cutting.  More importantly, there is additional information and testimonials about this clock on the "clock-kit-page" that you may find interesting.

List Of Materials Needed To Build The Thomas Wall Clock

12" X 24"s of 1/4" Plywood or comparable hardwood.

9" X 11"s of 3/8" Plywood or comparable hardwood.

8" X 11"s of 1/8" Plywood or comparable hardwood.

4"s X 4" of 3/4" hardwood

25"s of 1" Dowel,  36"s of 1/2" Dowel, 54"s of 1/4" Dowel ,  18"s of 1/8" Dowel

Any hardwood may be used to build this clock.  The objective is to use a hardwood that is least likely to warp from many years of moisture.  Furniture-Grade, 5-ply, Baltic Birch plywood is often used to make this clock because it is one of the least likely wood to warp (almost impossible if stained or finished) when exposed to the high humidity found in many homes during the various seasons.  (Cherry is also great!  It's also very beautiful!)
