Mr. R.D. Thomas tells me his Thomas Grandfather Clock Plans have sold over a million copies in the past 64 years! Congratulations, R.D.! That's a lot of grandfather clock plans!
Now, for the first time in history, we are offering the "gear-set-only" for this magnificent and very popular clock. The gears are cut by laser and are accurate to 10,000th of an inch. The wood is imported, Russian, 5-ply Baltic Birch - Marine grade! Very impressive stuff! It's nice to work with and it finishes beautifully. This nice wood is something to be proud of when finished or stained.
It is not that this clock is difficult to make with the plans only, where you cut out the templates with scissors, paste them to wood and them cut them out. It's just that some people would love to have this original clock, but they just don't trust their "gear-cutting ability" on a saw. Then again, there's a great many people who consider themselves very good woodworkers, but they don't have the patience or desire to cut the gears themselves. I know this is true, because I have received hundreds of emails asking for the grandfather clock in kit form. Well, we don't have it in kit form yet, but we are now offering gear-sets for The Thomas Grandfather Clock. This should make this wonderful clock available to almost everyone, whether they're experienced in woodworking or not. To simplify what I mean, I have included an exploded view of this clock below. (It slows the page down on loading, but I think it exemplifies my basic point!)
The gear-sets are made of 3/8" Baltic Birch, where the plans call for 1/2" -- No issue here, this won't affect the clock at all. We made this slight revision to accommodate the laser cuttings.

Mr. R.D. Thomas may have sold over a million copies of his grandfather clock plans in the last 68 years, but I sincerely doubt that there are that many of his finished clocks in this world (close, perhaps, but I doubt the one million mark!). There are probably as many reasons for this as there are people in this world. I'm betting that as simple as this clock is to make, procrastinators are a major portion of this group who have never completed this clock.
Well here's what I recommend: Don't do it now (because this would violate your propensities and you would not be a true procrastinator) but tomorrow sometime, please take a look at the exploded view above of the Thomas Grandfather Clock. Notice how simple it looks to make. Then later, consider building this famous clock with the gears professionally cut for you. Mark your calendar and in about a week or so, order the gear-set and plans! At an even later date, consider building this clock as sincere recreation and a true heirloom for your family to enjoy. If they really know you, now is your chance to prove them wrong about yourself!
